National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) announces new Recalls & Alerts

Goodyear Tire Recall
40,000 defective Goodyear tires have been recalled for their propensity to experience a tread separation while the vehicle is in operation. A tread separation significantly increases the risk that an operator will lose control of their vehicle and experience catastrophic or fatal injuries.
Goodyear has issued a recall of Wrangler Silent Armor Tires in the following sizes: LT235/80R17 LRE, LT325/60R18 LRE, LT275/70R18 LRE, LT265/70R17 LRE, LT245/75R17 LRE and LT285/70R17 LRD, produced from March 31st through May 31st, 2009.
The recall is expected to begin sometime on or before March 22, 2012, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the tires free of charge. Owners may contact Goodyear directly at 1-800-592-3267.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12T003000.
Nissan Recall: Fuel System Defect
Nissan has issued a recall of approximately 79,000 Juke, Infiniti QX and Infiniti M vehicles due to a fuel pressure sensor defect. The sensors in certain 2011-2012 vehicles may not have been tightened to the proper specifications which can lead to a fuel leak. A fuel leak can compromise the integrity of the fuel system significantly increasing the risk of a fire.
The recall is expected to begin on March 19, 2012, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Nissan directly at 615-725-1000.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V069000.
Honda Recall: Fuel System Defect
Honda has issued a recall of approximately 8,709 Pilot and Acura MDX vehicles due to a fuel system defect. The vent shut float (VSF) valve case in certain 2012 vehicles does not meet design specifications, resulting in a possible fuel leak. A fuel leak significantly increases the risk of a fuel fed fire and enhanced injuries to motorists.
The recall is expected to begin on or about March 13, 2012, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Honda customer service directly at 1-800-999-1009 and reference safety recall No. S25 and S26.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V063000.
Nissan Murano & Rogue Recall
Nissan has issued a recall of almost 3,000 Murano and Rogue vehicles manufactured from November 23, 2011 through January 11, 2012. The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) in certain 2012 vehicles may not have been activated during assembly, failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138 regarding “Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.” Maintaining appropriate tire pressure is critical to vehicle safety, as underinflated tires can lead to tire failure while the vehicle is in operation. Tire failure can significantly increase the risk of an accident and catastrophic injury
All of the affected vehicles are currently in dealer inventory and dealers will inspect the vehicle and activate the system. Owners purchasing one of these vehicles should make inquiries with the dealer to ensure the defect has been addressed before completing the sale.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V068000.
Volvo Recall
Volvo has issued a recall of approximately 17,000 S60, XC60, S80 and XC70 vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2011 through October 6, 2011. In certain 2012 vehicles, the wire harness under the front seats may not be properly attached to the seat frame. As a result, when the seats are moved to adjust the seating position, the wire harness may get pulled, causing it to disconnect. In the event of crash, the front and/or side impact airbags may deploy improperly or not at all, increasing the risk of enhanced injury. Further injury can also occur as the lap belt pretensioner may not deploy.
The recall is expected to begin on March 30, 2012, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Volvo directly at 1-800-458-1552.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V075000.
Honda Odyssey Recall
Honda has issued a recall of approximately 45,000 Odyssey vehicles due to a manufacturing flaw affecting the gas-filled struts that help to raise and support the liftgate of vehicles equipped with a power liftgate system.   The defect can result in a leak of pressurized gas leading to reduced strut performance, unexpected closure and increased risk of personal injury.
The recall is expected to begin on or about March 13, 2012, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Honda customer service directly at 1-800-999-1009 and reference safety recall No. S22.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V062000.
Nissan Quest Recall
Nissan has issued a recall of approximately 23,531 Quest vehicles manufactured from July 29, 2010 through February 21, 2012. Due to a software programming defect, the engine may stall on certain 2011-2012 vehicles traveling at slow speeds or idling on a decline with ¼ tank fuel or less. This is a result of insufficient fuel reaching the engine.
The recall is expected to begin sometime in March 2012, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Nissan directly at 1-800-647-7261.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V076000.
Kawasaki Recall
Kawasaki has issued a recall of certain 2008-2011 NINJA ZX-10R and 2009-2012 NINJA ZX-6R motorcycles manufactured from December 14, 2007 through July 26, 2011. Approximately 20,512 motorcycles may contain a manufacturing error that prevents the regulator/rectifier from sufficiently charging the battery. If the battery discharges, the motorcycle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall was expected to begin sometime on or about February 27, 2012, and dealers will inspect the bikes and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Kawasaki directly at 949-770-0400.   Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V064000.
